Domain Lifecycle & Redemption Policy
Domain Expiration, Renewal, and Deletion Process
1. Overview
This page explains what happens to a domain name registered with DotWee Limited from registration to possible deletion. It also describes the timelines and fees for renewal, grace, and redemption periods in line with ICANN's Expired Registration Recovery Policy (ERRP).
ICANN requires all accredited registrars to follow specific procedures for domain expiration, including mandatory renewal notices and minimum grace periods. This policy complies with those requirements.
2. Domain lifecycle stages
- Active Registration – The domain is registered to you and remains active until the end of the registration term.
- Expiration – If the domain is not renewed by the expiry date, it will stop resolving and enter the grace period.
- Grace Period – You may renew the domain at the standard renewal fee without penalty. This period is typically up to 30 days after expiry, but may vary by TLD.
- Redemption Period – If the domain is not renewed during the grace period, it enters redemption status for approximately 30 days. Restoring a domain during this period requires payment of the redemption fee in addition to the renewal fee.
- Pending Delete – If the domain is not restored during the redemption period, it enters a final five-day pending delete stage. At the end of this stage, the domain is deleted and becomes available for new registration.
3. Renewal notices
In compliance with ICANN's ERRP, DotWee Limited sends the following mandatory renewal reminders to the registrant's email address on file:
- 30 days before expiration – First expiration reminder
- 5 days before expiration – Second expiration reminder
- 5 days after expiration – Post-expiration notice informing you the domain has expired
We may send additional courtesy reminders (such as 1 day before or after expiration) at our discretion. It is your responsibility to ensure your contact email address is current and able to receive these notices.
4. Renewal fees
The renewal fee for each TLD is published on our website. Renewal fees are the same whether renewed before expiry or during the grace period.
5. Redemption fees
The redemption fee is USD 90 plus the applicable renewal fee. This fee may vary by TLD due to registry-specific pricing.
6. Auto-renewal
If you have enabled auto-renewal and your account has sufficient prepaid balance, we will attempt to renew your domain before the expiry date. If auto-renewal fails due to insufficient balance, the domain will follow the lifecycle described in section 2.
We recommend maintaining adequate account balance and enabling auto-renewal for important domains to prevent unintended expiration.
7. Deletion and re-registration
Once a domain is deleted after the pending delete stage, it becomes available for registration by the public. DotWee Limited cannot guarantee that you will be able to re-register the same domain after deletion.
8. Exceptions by TLD
Some TLDs may have different lifecycle rules, timeframes, or fees. Where registry policies differ, their rules will apply.
